Usually this is due to break-ins, although we’ve seen it occur from lawnmowers, cyclists, extreme weather and many more.

Almost all car side windows are made from toughened glass (a specially heat treated glass to make it stronger).

The drawback of toughened glass is that it shatters, and goes literally everywhere.

This picture was snapped by one of our mobile glaziers prior to starting a job.

Our mobile vans are equipped with special generators to power high pressure air compressors, and vacuums to help us remove virtually all the glass from inside the car.

Up close it looks like a regular stone chip but this smash actually spans around 200mm or 20 cm!

Look closely and you’ll see the drivers rear-vision mirror in behind the break and it will give you an idea of the size of the impact.

The central impact left behind looks much like the size of a baseball or a baseball bat end!

Either way the windscreen needed to be replaced before it falls in completely.
